The HUB-IN Project
How to bring historic urban areas back to life?
How can cities be reclaimed by their residents amidst touristification?
How to transform historic but abandoned areas into vibrant, future-proof places?
The EU-funded project HUB-IN endeavors to address these questions by transforming and regenerating Historic Urban Areas (HUAs) while preserving their unique cultural and social identity, as well as the environment.
Eight pilot cities - Belfast, Brasov, Genova, Grand Angoulême, Lisbon, Nicosia, Slovenska Bistrica and Utrecht - along with a range of international organisations, networks and universities, are co-developing new business models and innovative solutions that bring together sustainability and cultural heritage.
By focusing on creative industries, new lifestyles and natural and social resources, and by engaging with local communities and fostering relationships between local entrepreneurs, HUB-IN aims to:
- Reverse trends of abandonment and neglect of historic heritage
- Create new sustainable opportunities for local traditional businesses
- Develop new creative skills and jobs.
The innovation and entrepreneurship hubs developed in the partner cities’ HUAs will then be scaled up to a global network of HUAs in follower cities that will join the HUB-IN Alliance.
