Financing Schemes and Enablers for energy transition

Financing Schemes and Enablers for energy transition

Course modified date: 14 April 2026

Achieving climate neutrality at the local level requires solid financial planning, well-structured project design, and a clear understanding of available funding opportunities. This course supports public authorities in navigating the financial dimension of decarbonisation, helping them transform climate goals into realistic, bankable projects.
Throughout the course, participants will be guided step by step through the key components of financial sustainability and feasibility.

The learning journey is structured into three main sections. First, participants will explore the fundamental principles behind developing a strong and credible project proposal, with a focus on aligning technical, environmental, and financial aspects. Second, the course introduces practical approaches to assess the financial readiness of a project idea, enabling learners to identify gaps, evaluate risks, and strengthen their proposals before seeking funding. Finally, participants will gain an overview of the most commonly used financing schemes and enablers that can support decarbonisation actions at the local level, including both public and private funding sources.

In addition, the course highlights strategic tools developed within the Prospect project to support informed decision-making and improve project preparation processes. These tools are designed to be practical and directly applicable to real-life situations faced by municipalities, energy agencies, and other local stakeholders.
